My 2014 Nissan Patrol has developed a harsh shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, especially when the transmission is hot after driving for an hour or so. Part of me likes the convenience, but another part of me thinks a gearbox is too important to trust to someone without a proper lift and all the diagnostic tools. I was reading online and decided to view details on a few shops in Sharjah that specialize in these RE7 transmissions found in Patrols and Land Cruisers. They seem to have proper equipment and experience. But I'm also a busy guy and taking time off work to drive to Sharjah and leave the car there for days is a hassle. Has anyone here used a mobile service for a transmission issue and actually had a good result? Or should I just stop being lazy and take it to a proper specialist? Hard clunk from 2nd to 3rd when hot on a Patrol RE7 is almost always a valve body pressure issue. Mobile mechanics with a scan tool simply cannot diagnose that properly without live data monitoring during an actual hot drive cycle.

Convenience is tempting but a gearbox is not the place to compromise. A mobile mechanic without a lift cannot properly inspect the transmission pan for metal shavings which is essential before any diagnosis on this symptom.

Taking a day off work to sort a harsh shifting Patrol properly is far less painful than ignoring it until the valve body damages something more expensive. Hot clunking on upshifts rarely fixes itself.
