We're about to start interviewing people for a kitchen and bath project and I'm realizing I have no idea what separates a good contractor from a great one on paper, especially with a 1940s house that has its share of weird surprises behind the walls. I've been asking around and a few neighbors mentioned looking for the Best remodeling contractor for Palo Alto houses, which sounds sensible, but I'd love to know what questions actually helped you filter people out. Did anyone ask something that made a contractor squirm or reveal they didn't know older homes? I'm trying not to just pick whoever has the nicest photos on their website.
