Are there any modern equivalents to the JVC RX-518-VBK? (18 อ่าน)

Hello, everyone! I decided to bring up a topic that I think will resonate with many old-school enthusiasts. I have been using the classic JVC RX-518-VBK receiver for many years now. The unit is a real beast: 70 watts per channel in stereo mode, true Class AB, and crucially for me an excellent built-in phono preamp for vinyl. I recently dug into the service manual to look at the schematics and refresh my knowledge of its inner workings, and I started wondering: is there anything on the market today that matches it in spirit and sound quality, but with modern bells and whistles? The main problem is that the RX-518 is a receiver from the mid-90s, when the focus was on the analog section.

Nowadays, most budget and mid-range models are overloaded with digital processing, HDMI ports, and wireless interfaces, yet their amplifier stages often fall short of the old Japanese models in terms of depth and smoothness of sound. I tried looking at modern network stereo receivers, but the price tags on models with good discrete amplification and a phono input are simply sky-high right now.

Where did you get your hands on a thing like that? I love everything about vinyl, I have a whole collection of turntables and records at home. Some I bought myself, while others were gifts from friends and relatives for the holidays. But vintage turntables are a special passion of mine, especially when they are made in Japan. By the way, have you checked out the user manual for JVC RX-518-VBK from ManualMachine? I think it will help you fix your turntable if you’re having any issues with it. I found a lot of useful information there, as far as I am concerned, this site is a real treasure trove for enthusiasts like you and me. By the way, I would be interested in chatting with you about this, what do you say?
